Home Visiting Volunteer for Newborn babies and Families
Good Beginnings of Central Vermont
Description: The purpose of the Good Beginnings program is to create a caring community which gives help to families with newborn babies. A Good Beginnings home visitor visits a family once a week for 1-2 hours for a three month period. Over this time the volunteer develops an effective and caring relationship with the parents. We aim to increase parents' ability to be good caretakers by providing basic information and modeling nurturing behaviors. Our volunteers offer families information on child development and care, health and safety concerns, and postpartum issues. Our volunteers help reduce isolation by connecting families with relevant community resources, while promoting independence and an improved self-confidence in the parents through encouragement and optimism. Monthly volunteer meetings are held to keep home visitors up to date on relevant information and learn more about ways to support newborn families.
