Overnight Homeless Shelter Volunteer
Good Samaritan Haven
Description: The Good Samaritan Haven is an emergency overnight shelter in Barre, VT. We have been providing compassionate care for homeless people since 1986. One overnight volunteer supervises the shelter from opening (6:00 pm October thru April and 7:00 pm April thru October) til closing at 7:00 am the following morning. This involves answering the phone, tracking guest phone usage, designating guests to set up the dining room for the evening meal and guests to clean up after the meal, and logging any violation of the Haven rules, assigning beds, and completing intake paperwork for new arrivals. Overnight volunteers sleep in a private, lockable room with phone and alarm clock / radio. Currently our maximum guest capacity at the Haven is 26. Hedding United Methodist Church is currently serving as an overflow shelter site for up to 14 additional homeless people when needed.
