Partnerships & Collaborations
Through the 2008 Community Assessment, Green Mountain United Way identified four priority areas: Financial Stability, Healthy Living, Early Learning and Basic Needs. The following is a comprehensive list of the partners who are essential in helping to achieve lasting change in our communities within these four areas.

CASH Coalitions(Creating Assets, Savings and Hope):
In partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, Green Mountain United Way has established CASH Coalitions in Central VT and the NEK, working collaboratively with financial institutions, community action councils, and local human services agencies to help families reach self-sufficiency. -
Central Vermont Economic Collaborative & Housing Partnership:
Green Mountain United Way played a pivotal role in developing the Central Vermont Economic Collaborative. The collaborative engages stakeholders around five issues: housing, transportation, employment, communication infrastructure, and the "cost of doing business." To increase the impact of the collaborative, the Central Vermont Housing Partnership was established. The Housing Partnership is concerned with affordable housing development (housing that costs no greater than 30% of household income). For more information please visit www.weneedhousing.com. -
Central Vermont Workforce Investment Board:
Green Mountain United Way participates on the Central VT Workforce Investment Board. Workforce Investment Boards were established through legislation to support regional economic strategies. -
Chambers of Commerce:
Green Mountain United Way is an active member of the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce and the Cohase Chamber of Commerce in Orange County. The Bradford Workforce Development Committee operates under the umbrella of the Cohase Chamber of Commerce and supports regional workforce and economic strategies.

Northeast Kingdom Collaborative:
Organizations and businesses in the Northeast Kingdom share information about various economic topics in the NEK, including housing, transportation, and tourism. Panels of knowledgeable professionals present information at the meetings, offer suggestions and develop a plan of action for improvement. -
Northeast Kingdom Job Coalition:
The NEK Job Coalition supports job placement, job support and training in the Northeast Kingdom and is also part of the Statewide Job Developer Coalition which applies the same goals statewide. -
Vermont Jump$tart Coalition:
The Vermont Jump$tart Coalition is a non-profit organization consisting of individuals representing business, government and education who have joined together to improve the financial literacy of Vermont's youth.

Blueprint for Health:
Beginning in the spring of 2011, the Blueprint for Health at Central VT Medical Center (CVMC) has identified a number of community organizations, including Green Mountain United Way, working toward improving health. These community organizations hope to bring to this group a more holistic approach to community health. -
Caledonia/Southern Essex Tobacco Advisory Coalition:
The Caledonia/Southern Essex Tobacco Advisory Coalition meets monthly at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. The coalition's goal is to reduce the use of tobacco and smokeless tobacco in the region and offers classes, aides to stop smoking, support groups and guest speakers. The coalition has also established No Smoking areas in public parks and other locations. -
Central Vermont Coalition for Health:
The Central Vermont Coalition for Health (CVCH) was created after a health forum identified the need for increased collaboration. The core group is focused on improving education and communication between health organizations and agencies in Central VT. CVCH is an advisory group for the CHAMPPS project in Washington County, promoting healthy eating and physical activity for families with young children. This group will likely become a workgroup of the Blueprint for Health at CVMC. -
Central Vermont Food Systems Council:
Green Mountain United Way has joined the Central VT Food Systems Council to help expand Central VT's sustainable food system to ensure that the community has access to quality, affordable food. -
Central Vermont Physical Activity Coalition:
Green Mountain United Way played an active role in developing the Central VT Physical Activity Coalition to coordinate, promote, advocate and share resources to help increase access to physical activity opportunities for all individuals in Washington County. -
The Dartmouth Institute
The Dartmouth Institute (TDI) has selected the communities of Manchester, N.H., Keene, N.H., and St. Johnsbury, VT to participate in a research project to improve cardiovascular health in the three communities. The Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, the Vermont Department of Health and Green Mountain United Way are members of the St. Johnsbury team and has worked with Weidmann Electrical Technologies in St. Johnsbury to improve the cardiovascular health of their workforce. The next phase of this TDI Project has yet to be defined. -
Fit and Healthy Coalition (NEK):
The Fit and Healthy Coalition in Caledonia/So. Essex is part of Vermont's Blueprint for Health. The group discusses current initiatives, including various healthy food options incentives to improve nutrition; education and information; standards for physical activity and behavioral changes with regard to tobacco and alcohol. -
HealthWorks ONE:
Green Mountain United Way plays an active role in this health collaborative in Orleans/Northern Essex counties, which works cooperatively with diverse partners to create community culture where healthy options and choices abound through advocacy and support of initiatives. Its vision is that all people in this region will have the opportunity to attain an optimal quality of health and well-being throughout their lifespan. -
Orange County Prevention:
A collaborative of community organizations and concerned citizens dedicated to providing the community, specifically youth, with the resources, education, opportunities and skills for life-long wellness and substance abuse prevention.

Early Learning

Building Bright Futures:
Green Mountain United Way participates on the Building Bright Futures Steering Committees and Councils in Central Vermont, Caledonia/Southern Essex and Orleans/Northern Essex. Local early childhood groups collaborate through these councils to ensure that all Vermont children are healthy and successful. The regional groups are part of a statewide organization, which operates within the framework of four areas: 1) children are ready for school in all five domains; 2) new families at risk; 3) women smoking during pregnancy; and 4) infant mortality rates. -
Early Childhood Action Team of Orange/Windsor (ECAT):
ECAT is the state's Building Bright Futures Council for Orange and Windsor counties and continues to promote and coordinate early education initiatives in the region. -
Maternal Child Health Coalition:
The Maternal Child Health Coalition in Washington County collaborates with several different partners to address the needs of infants and their parents. The group worked with Washington County Mental Health Services to create a supportive home for women and their children.

Central Vermont Food, Fuel, and Transportation Coalition:
The Coalition was formed to respond to the growing concerns about the 2008/09 winter needs. Five action teams were formed: sheltering, food, weatherization, transportation, and education/awareness. Each action team is able to re-form quickly in response to community needs. -
Community Coordinating Council:
The CCC meets in St. Johnsbury to share information and increase awareness on timely and important community issues. -
Disaster Recovery Committee:
This committee has been established in Caledonia/So. Essex counties for planning of relief and recovery efforts in the event of future weather-related or other disasters in the area. -
District Leadership Team of Orange/Windsor:
Members meet monthly to discuss and share pertinent information in the Orange/Windsor county communities. Members represent non-profit organizations and state agencies. -
District Leadership Team - Northeast Kingdom:
Green Mountain United Way has joined the Agency of Human Services Field Director and several other agency department heads to address the social service challenges in the Northeast Kingdom. -
Northeast Kingdom Food and Fuel Coalition:
The NEK Food and Fuel Coalition works to support the food, fuel and utility needs of the people at risk in Caledonia/So. Essex counties, especially because of cuts in discretionary funding at the state level. -
Orleans/Northern Essex Community Partnership (ONECP):
ONECP consists of individuals from different non-profit organizations, state agencies and other interested parties who come together to network on various strengths and weaknesses of the area. Issues such as food and fuel, transportation, state budget, financial stability and housing are discussed. -
Washington County Continuum of Care:
The Washington County Continuum of Care is part of the statewide Coalition to End Homelessness. Its mission is to bring together people working to reduce and prevent homelessness. -
Washington County Hunger Council:
This council has a wide interest in hunger related issues. The Council was formed through funding provided by Northfield Savings Bank to the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger and has a sister council in Chittenden County. -
Vermont 2-1-1:
Vermont 2-1-1 is a number to dial for information about social services and referrals throughout Vermont. Green Mountain United Way is involved as a partner organization through the United Ways of Vermont.
