Green Mountain United Way Assists with Letter Carriers' Food Drive

The 19th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive was held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 with several local postal workers participating. It was a very successful day for everyone. Green Mountain United Way assisted through advance promotion of the event.

In Green Mountain United Way's five-county region, at least 17,388 pounds of non-perishable food items were donated by postal customers and distributed by the letter carriers to local food shelves. Said one postmaster, "The results…certainly speak volumes about the community's generosity and the caring attitude of our employees… I see the food drive as a reflection of the tradition and spirit of community service that postal employees demonstrate every day."

Local postal employees who participated include those from post offices in Barre, Barnet, Barton, Bradford, Canaan, Chelsea, Hardwick, Island Pond, Lyndonville, Marshfield, Montpelier, Newport, Northfield, North Troy, Plainfield, Randolph, Waitsfield, Waterbury and Williamstown.

The food shelves benefiting from these contributions include:
