Early Learning Initiative
Through a community assessment in 2008, Green Mountain United Way identified early learning as a priority area and began implementing the Early Learning initiative to increase school readiness by helping parents, caregivers and communities create early learning opportunities for all children.
In collaboration with local Building Bright Futures Councils and early childhood groups, Green Mountain United Way seeks to increase school readiness by:- Communicating directly to parents and caregivers the latest early childhood development research through Born Learning materials that provide easy, “doable” teaching opportunities in every day moments
- Supporting quality early learning services
- Building community awareness on the importance of early learning

Born Learning

Materials:
- KidsBasics Booklets: A booklet of nine cards providing quick facts and recommended strategies. Topics: well visits, connection with your child, child care, sleep, play, dads, discipline, feeding, literacy.
- Grocery Tip Pads: Tip Pads combine practical needs of shopping with research-based tips on engaging young children at the same time. These 50-page lists are designed to encourage parent-child involvement in the shopping process. Running errands can be fun!
- Your Child @ Handouts: Double-sided handouts provide information on 10 stages of early childhood development with research-based best practices to help young children learn.
